I rented a Toyota Prius for a trip to Miami this past weekend. I generally have a heavy foot, and was still able to get 45.6mpg!

Despite the fantastic gas economy, I have a few problems with this car. Basically the ride is very loud, the seats are not very comfortable, and there really isn’t much trunk room. I can deal with the lack of space, but man is it a loud ride. You hear the buzzing of the tires on the road while driving. I thought my ears were ringing every time we got out of the car.

My wife sent me an article from the NY times today. Someone had Pinkberry analyzed and it has a bunch of sweetners that are anything but natural.

Rose and I got to airport at 8:48AM. Our flight was going to leave at 9:20AM, so we were 8 minutes late to get our bags checked. The attendant person said we had to get the next flight….WHICH was at 9:30PM!!!!

After a bit of horn-swaggling I got them to rush our bags and get us on the flight. Thankfully the airport was empty and we zipped right through security to the flight. They said our bags potentially may not get on the flight. As we were boarding the plane we saw our bags were just added to the cart. Check out the picture!

I found yet another reason why I love California. While taking care of some errands yesterday I came across a strange looking garbage can. What I found is that it was actually a garbage compactor, and even cooler is that its solar powered!

This is a great for the environment as compacted trash will take up less space in the dumps. The only possible issue I see is the ability to sort through compacted trash for bottles, cans, and other recycleable goods.

I’m sure its pissing off the hordes of homeless people in Santa Monica that go through the garbage cans for cans and what not.
